MOG vs Spotify

Recently I made the switch from MOG to Spotify. MOG can be buggy since it's an HTML5 web page that relies on Flash... I was interested in trying something more reliable.

MOG's Android app has also been questionable - it usually works but it's always been quirky at best.

Turns out Spotify's application for Windows is impressive - it has local files and streamed tracks all in one interface. Its playlists automatically add tracks to the unified Library view, which includes all local music files. So I can have mixtape mp3's and streaming albums in the same play queue.

On the other hand, the Spotify Android app is garbage. It's entirely playlist-based, so there is no good way to queue albums. And the wifi mp3 sync copies music to the Android device, but each file gets chunked up into Spotify's DRM scheme - this means that other music players can't see the files. At this point, I am planning on signing up for the Unlimited plan, and eschewing Spotify on my phone entirely. I've been copying mp3's to the phone with Microsoft's Sync Toy, and playing them back with the Amazon MP3 app.
