Still running the Optimus V on Virgin Mobile, content with the stock Android 2.2 (FroYo) that it ships with. However, I was having some trouble with the headphone input - the phone thought that ear buds were inserted when they were not. I suspected that this was a software problem, so I installed Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 (2.3 Gingerbread).
Turns out I was having a hardware issue, I suspect. CM7.1 still has issues with the headphone input, occasionally. Consulting the Googles suggests that there might be an issue with the battery or the headphone jack itself.
Fortunately CM7.1 offers quite a bit of customization, and I can do software workarounds for the problem. Plus I found toggleheadset2, which is pretty handy.
Overall, Cyanogen Gingerbread is very impressive. Very pleasing to the eye, and the phone feels more responsive. Many thanks to Cyanogenmod and IHO for the unoffical CM port to the Optimus V. I had briefly looked into custom ROM's when I bought the device (Feb. 2011), but nothing promising was available then. IHO was released in June 2011, and it's a high-quality, bug-free release. I'm running EmuZombie's IHO-Purity.
