Upgraded to Android 2.2 last night. Installed the SPRecovery bootloader and then installed Sapphire rom, version 0.8.4. Google apps installed seamlessly as well. Followed instructions on Droid Life.
Froyo is a significant speed improvement, especially in the web browser. The browsing bottleneck is certainly web page rendering, not connection speed. Should have updated sooner - Verizon takes far too long to push out updates.
Additionally, installed the newest version of LauncherPro, which is remarkably fast as well. Enabling the "keep in memory" option offers a noticeable performance increase. Also installed the official Swype beta, which never worked properly in 2.1.
